Reserve Band Tracker is a free, unofficial site where parents waiting on a NSW selective high school or opportunity class reserve list post which band they are in and the date an offer arrived, so other families can see whether a school’s list has actually moved. No sign-up, no login, no email address, nothing hidden behind posting first.

Why it exists

For years the Department published, school by school, which reserve band each school had reached, and kept it updated. It no longer does. So a family on a reserve list is told their own letter and nothing else — not whether the queue in front of them has moved at all. The only thing left is to tell each other.

What it collects

The nickname you type, the school, boy or girl, the band, any dates and subject bands you enter, an optional note, and a hashed edit code. That is all. No email, no name, no login, no tracking. Your nickname and note are public, so please do not put a child’s real name in them.

What the numbers are — and are not

Everything on the board is parents reporting what happened to them. It is not verified, most families never post at all, and some of it will be wrong. Read it for a sense of movement, not as a record.

“Bands shared” is not the size of the band, and the figures are not a countdown. A list moves only when a family ahead declines, so how many offers a band receives has nothing to do with how many people are standing in it. The numbers show whether a school’s list has moved and how recently — not how much is left.

If something looks wrong

Every entry has a Doesn’t look right button. Once enough people doubt an entry and nobody confirms it, it is greyed out, marked disputed · not counted and left out of every figure. It is never deleted, and a single Looks right from somebody who knows puts it back. The point is not to catch liars — it is that one mistyped band can mislead a hundred anxious families.

Changing or removing your own post

Use the edit code you chose when posting. It is not a password, it is stored only as a one-way hash, and it exists so you can come back and add the date when an offer arrives. Never reuse a password from anywhere else.
